Weekend in the Wilds 2-day event includes the favorites like the pie and ice cream social Friday at the First Presbyterian Church and new this year was a night swim at the Cameron County High School community pool. Saturday begins at dawn with The Big Foot Hunt benefitting Mountaineer Search and Rescue, artist tent, and children’s activities. Food vendors line East Fourth Street extending to North Broad Street. There is also a garage sale benefitting the Cameron County SPCA at the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department. During this event CCOYA partners with Cameron County Long Beards Chapter of NWTF and sets up tables displaying many wildlife mounts along with NWTF education and other conservation minded material. Young volunteers help with youth craft activities available. This year’s craft, using tree cookies, youth learned how to age a tree counting the rings and decorate their own tree cookie to make a necklace for themselves.
