The Bucktail Rod and Gun Club, Cameron County Family Center and Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities (CCOYA) are co-sponsoring a 2nd annual Russell E. Rhoads Memorial youth ice fishing event scheduled for February 1 2020 at Bucktail Rod and Gun Club in Sizer Run. Russell passed away December 30 2017 at the young age of 30 years old. He was the Son of Rusty Sr. and Deanna Rhoades of Emporium. He was a 2006 graduate of CCHS and loved hunting and fishing. Russell and his Father have both volunteered their time to help with the Youth Ice Fishing event. He had a big heart and always enjoyed seeing young people become more involved in outdoor activities. Russell’s family is donating $25.00 to the youth that catches the largest fish (does not have to be a trout) during the times of the event. The program is for youth all ages up to 17 and accompanied by an adult. The event will start at 9:00am and last until 2:00pm. The clubhouse will be open so everyone will have an opportunity to warm up throughout the event. Hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee will be provided for those participating in the event. The intent of this program is to provide an introduction to ice fishing. All Pa. Fish and Boat rules and regulations apply during this event. Youth under 16yrs of age don’t need a license. Adults who are helping a very young angler can bait the hook and drop the line, however Kids have to set the hook and reel the fish in. The sponsors encourage you to bring your own equipment, however there will be volunteers on hand to provide basic instruction and allowing participating youth the opportunity to use their equipment. The event may be cancelled due to rain or unsafe ice conditions. Please pre-register for the event by 1/30/20. To register a youth or volunteer your time and talents please contact Don Bickford at 814 486 3363 or Frank Armanini at 814 486 0941.
